DAMSTIF II™ Composite Enclosure

At the heart of Orion lies the innovative DAMSTIF II composite enclosure. A single-piece cast-aluminum inner shell is married to an outer aerospace-grade carbon-fiber housing and baffle—without the use of any fasteners or joints. Between these two layers lies over 115 lb of proprietary high-mass damping compound. As a result, the cabinet achieves extraordinary stiffness and an incredibly low resonance signature.

This advanced construction eliminates unwanted cabinet coloration and edge diffraction. Consequently, driver placement and wave launch remain pristine and phase-accurate. The result is a speaker that delivers remarkable realism and imaging precision, far beyond its physical size.

Bespoke Three-Driver Design

Orion features a carefully engineered three-way design with custom-built drivers developed exclusively by Rockport Technologies. These are not off-the-shelf components; rather, they are the product of years of acoustic research and materials engineering.

• 13″ woofer: The carbon-fiber sandwich cone delivers tight, extended bass and exceptional control, even at high volumes.

• 7″ midrange: This driver offers outstanding clarity and low distortion thanks to its ultra-stiff carbon-fiber composite cone.

• 1.25″ beryllium dome tweeter: Loaded with a custom waveguide, the tweeter offers wide dispersion and a smooth response, starting well below 2 kHz for seamless integration with the midrange.

Together, these elements create an expansive soundstage with precise imaging, rich midrange tone, and extended highs that remain detailed yet non-fatiguing.

Sonic Performance

From a technical perspective, the Orion achieves an impressive frequency response of 20 Hz to 25 kHz (–3 dB). Moreover, its sensitivity is rated at 90 dB (2.83 V/1 m), and it presents a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. These specifications ensure compatibility with a wide range of high-quality amplifiers.

In addition, the rear-firing port extends low-frequency output down to 30 Hz (–6 dB), providing a powerful foundation without sacrificing speed or articulation. However, to unlock Orion’s full potential, robust amplification is strongly recommended. A minimum of 50 W RMS per channel is ideal, although amplifiers with high current reserves will offer even better results.

Despite its commanding sonic abilities, Orion is visually sleek and modern. Its sculpted form minimizes edge diffraction, while the swept-back baffle and curved surfaces reflect both elegance and acoustic function.

The speaker measures 50.3″ H × 14.3″ W (20.3″ with feet) × 26.4″ D and weighs 360 lb per unit. Thanks to its sophisticated design and finish options, Orion blends seamlessly into both classic and contemporary interiors.
